Recommended Formulation Procedures

To obtain maximum strength and performance from Reisperse Dispersions:

  1. It is always a good idea to add resin vehicles to the dispersion under agitation, not dispersion to the resin vehicle. Never weigh all ingredients to a container and then mix.
  2. Check the ph of the dispersion before making any adds and adjust to 9.0 to 9.4. Dispersion products will normally drop in ph as they age, and raising the ph will lessen the possibility of ph shock when the vehicle is added. In some cases the vehicle may have to be raised in ph before adding it to the dispersion. Both products should not be below 8.7 or shock can occur.
  3. If there is free water in the formula, add the water to the dispersion under agitation before adding the vehicle.
  4. If it is impractical to start with the dispersion (such as cases where only small amounts of dispersions are being added to large amounts of vehicle), start in a smaller container on a smaller mixer and add the water and about 20% of the total amount of vehicle under agitation to the dispersion/water blend. Then dump this mix into the rest of the batch under agitation.
  5. Other ingredients should not be added to the mix until after the resinous ingredient is mixed into the dispersion. Solvents should be mixed 1:1 with water in the formula before being added to the mix, again to prevent shock.

Quality Control

Reitech prides itself in the high quality and batch to batch consistency of our dispersions. All Reitech Reisperse Dispersions are manufactured to strict quality specifications and every batch is matched to a wet standard in ph, masstone shade and strength, tint shade and strength, solids, gloss and transparency. Retains of each batch are kept for up to a year.

Protection From Freezing

Reitech Reisperse dispersions are water based and as such, subject to freezing when stored at temperatures below 32°F for extended periods of time. Most Reisperse products will withstand several freeze/thaw cycles, but it is not recommended that customers let dispersions freeze during shipping or storage. Accidentally frozen materials must be removed to a warm area and when thoroughly thawed, mixed well on a mechanical mixer. In most cases the resulting product will return to its normal consistency and strength.

Settling

Reisperse Dispersions are formulated to exhibit minimum hard settling characteristics for up to one year after their shipping date. Dispersions containing inorganic pigments will exhibit more separation and soft settling than organic dispersions and may require some mechanical mixing.

Product and Environmental Data

All Reisperse dispersion samples are shipped with MSDS and Technical Data sheets. Certificates of Color Analysis (COA’s) are available on a per batch basis if requested.
